| On this site in 1936, Dr.Ukichiro Nakaya successfully produced the world's first "artificial snow crystal". Discovery of the mechanism of formation of snow crystals, brought him the Prize of the Japan Academy, and numerous other pioneering discoveries paved the way for the establishment of the university's Institute of Low Temperature Science. |
