On October 19, Hokkaido University hosted the ERASMUS MUNDUS Mobility Program in Europe Information Event under the joint auspices of the Delegation of the European Commission to Japan on campus at the Conference Hall. The information event for faculty members and academic staff had 82 attendees, while the session for students and the general public welcomed 92 people. The Erasmus Mundus Mobility Program offers joint masters/doctoral programs and partnerships with non-European Union higher education institutions. The event began with a program overview by Ms. Marie-H?l?ne Vareille, Attach? and Deputy Head of the Press, Public and Cultural Affairs (PPCA) Section of the Delegation of the European Commission to Japan. Then, Professor Toru Takenaka from the Graduate School of Letters at Osaka University. outlined the program from the viewpoint of a Japanese institution that has already implemented the Erasmus Mundus Program. From the standpoint of a European university engaged in the program, Dr. Corinne Touati, a researcher at INRIA (the French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control) and the Laboratory of Informatics of Grenoble (LIG), outlined the program's details, advantages, and issues. Lastly, Tsuyoshi Morimoto, an ERASMUS MUNDUS alumnus (2007) of the European Masters Course in Aeronautics and Space Technology (EuMAS) spoke about his experiences from the viewpoint of a student in terms of preparations for overseas study, living and studying abroad, graduation research, job-hunting activities, and advice for students considering participating in the program. A reception following the information event for faculty members and academic staff allowed participants to interact with the speakers over snacks.
