On October 9, an entrance ceremony was held in the Clark Memorial Student Center for international students enrolled in the October 2009 Japanese Language Course, the Japanese Language and Culture Studies Course, and the Hokkaido University Short-Term Exchange Program (HUSTEP).

A total of 71 students from 22 countries and regions enrolled in these courses - 16 students from 10 countries/regions for the Japanese Language Course, 15 students from 8 countries for the Japanese Language and Culture Studies Course, and 40 students from 11 countries for HUSTEP.

During the ceremony, International Student Center Director Prof. Takeo Hondoh delivered an address, and University President Hiroshi Saeki gave a congratulatory speech. After the addresses, international students introduced themselves and shared their aspirations. By the time commemorative photos were taken after the event, all students had opened up to one another and enjoyed a congenial atmosphere.
