Successful commercialization of next-generation image search technology developed by Hokkaido University

Image Cruiser, a Next-generation image search application based on technology invented by Prof. Miki Haseyama of the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, was developed by a local IT consortium that includes Datacraft Co., Ltd. has begun commercial operations successfully. The development was under auspices of the Information Grand Voyage Project conducted by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry from FY 2007 to FY 2009.

The Image Cruiser application instantaneously calculates image feature quantities, and enables automatic distance calculation and arrangement of large volumes of images, without utilizing text-based tag information. The technology allows collection and classification of similar images without relying on text, and helps users to locate the images they want intuitively.
