|---|
| By cooperating with industries in the region, this program aims at regional activation by offering practical training experience and bilateral participative education for generating new marine-product industries in the Hakodate area. Job training is also offered. At the Graduate School of Fisheries Sciences, the open lecture "The development of a new marine fishery science" and the regional project "Let's go to Hokkaido University and play with squid! Let's study squid!" were carried out to instruct the general public and primary school students, respectively, and every year, there are 2-5 people who want to participate for every spot available in these programs. Other education programs include general-education field studies conducted aboard the training ship Oshoro Maru and at the Usujiri Marine Experimental Station and Nanae Freshwater Experimental Station, comprehensive lectures, and the summer session program for foreign-exchange students. In December 2004, several municipalities around Hakodate City were incorporated into the city, and in cooperation with the Graduate School of Fisheries Sciences campus in Hakodate, the first "International Marine Products of Hakodate-The Ocean City Plan" was developed. The region regeneration plans from the Cabinet Office entitled "Marine fisheries science - Forming the Core of a Research City" and "Marine Frontier Science and Technology Research District" were also approved. The "City Area Industry-University-Government Cooperative Promotion Business" plan for the Hakodate area prepared by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has started, and various programs have begun to reconstruct marine-product and ocean-associated industries. In this program, educational needs associated with developing new marine-product industries in southern Hokkaido (including Hakodate) and the development of manpower training are being addressed. |
