
This farm is situated on the south-western hillside of the Hidaka mountains.
Being established in 1950,
the Farm has been operated mainly in the area of grazing on mountainous and sloped lands,
and many successful results have been obtained both in research and in the training of students.
The research conducted at the Farm includes: studies on keeping native Hokkaido ponies;
high roughage feeding system of grazing cattle in sloped pastures;
behavioral studies of grazing animals in mountainous-sloped lands.
The results obtained from the research are reported in various academic journals
and The Research Bulletin of the Livestock Farm. The Farm provides students with lodgings in order to
receive training in: the management of grasslands; the harvesting of hay;
the feeding and management of beef cattle;
the feeding and management of horses;
the artificial insemination of cattle;
horse riding and breaking and other areas of study.
The area of the Farm is approximately 470 ha.,
and the livestock bred there include about 100 horses
(20 light horses, 70 native Hokkaido ponies, and 10 of other breeds),
150-170 beef cattle(Hereford) and 10-30 dairy heifers(Holstein).
