Indo-Pacific Fish Conference

　　　The quadrennial Indo-Pacific Fish Conference (IPFC) was held in beautiful Okinawa in summer time (24 to 28 June 2013).
　As in the previous IPFCs, the main themes of the Okinawa Conference include systematics, evolution, zoogeography and phylogeography, biodiversity, ecology, behavior, and conservation.

Two Usujiri members 山﨑 彩 and 李 昂 attended the conference and gave an oral research presentation with the title 
“Molecular phylogeny and zoogeography of marine sculpins in the genus Gymnocanthus　based on mitochondrial DNA sequences” 



and “Phylogenetic analysis and molecular evolution of copulatory behavior in two cottid genera” respectively. 
　
　We were also lucky enough to meet many well-known scholars from all over the world. 
We had discussions with some of them and had friendly chats that were free of cultural differences. 
Both of us though　that the conference was a good experience to increase knowledge and expand our horizons.

By the way, Okinawa really deserves its fame!!! 
　White sand beach, coconut palm tree, hot wind, delicious food, U.S. Army…^_^

　Its pleasant beauty and deep traditional culture really impressed us.
