1)

Training for zoonosis control specialists and graduate students:

The COE program accepts veterinarians and specialists of zoonosis and train them together with Japanese graduate students, and specially selected working-adult students such as in the working-adult brush-up course.  The training course aims to produce specialists who can conduct to plan and to direct the countermeasures.  These specialists act in the front lines of zoonosis outbreaks to save human lives by performing epidemiological investigation, diagnosis, and preventive activities. They will join in the international information network for global surveillance in the program and their epidemiological information provided will be utilized effectively for the control of zoonoses.

International exchanges:

Symposia for surveillance and training course for major zoonoses will be held in African, Asian, and Central and South American countries.  Research collaboration programs for the subject of zoonosis control will be performed with the institutes where the trainees in the course belong to.

Training of young scientists:

Postdoctoral fellows will be adopted for research and will also be involved in education program of graduate school as teaching assistants.  Travel expenses will be provided for young outstanding scientists to attend international meetings and to visit universities and research institutes abroad.

4)

Acceptance of overseas trainees:

The COE program will accept the Asian and African trainees sent by research organizations in Japan and abroad such as JICA, JVMA, and WHO and will provide them with short-term training courses for the prevention of zoonoses.
