About the RECBS

The Strategic Research Program for Brain Sciences (SRPBS) of MEXT: Field F

The Strategic Research Program for Brain Sciences (SRPBS) of MEXT started in 2008, aiming at realizing brain sciences that contribute to the world.

Since then, various studies have been conducted in five fields, labelled A to E.

Research in Fields of F and G started in 2011.

Field F: Integrated Research on Neuropsychiatric Disorders; Field G: Bioinformatics for Brain Sciences

In Field F, researchers from Hokkaido University collaborate with Shigeto Yamawaki (field leader; professor at Hiroshima Univ.), Masahiko Mikuni (professor at Gunma Univ.) and Nakao Iwata (professor at Fujita Health University) on the Research Team for Mood Disorders. This team aims at understanding the molecular, cellular and neurocircuitry mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology of mood disorders, including depression and bipolar disorder.

Field F also includes the Research Team for Developmental Disorders and the Research Team for Brain Aging. The former team aims at elucidating biological factors and pathogenic mechanisms involved in developmental disorders from infancy to early childhood; the latter team aims to understand the mechanisms of deviation in brain health and abnormal aging with respect to genetic background.
