In Niseko, resort industries have been developed by foreign companies since the 1990’s and currently foreign residents occupy around 4%(depending on the season) of the total population. During the winter season in some areas of Niseko, approximately 80 % of the communication is assumed to be conducted in English. We will look at how the language context influences the daily life of local people and the possibility of effective mutual understandings in a growing multicultural society.
This lecture is bilingual (English & Japanese).
ニセコ町では外国資本によるリゾート産業の開発が1990年代より盛んに行われ、現在の在住外国人数は時期によっては町の全人口の4％を占めます。冬の比羅夫地区で約80％くらいのコミュニケーションは英語で行われていると推測されています。このような言語環境がどのように地元の人々の生活に影響しているか、相互理解をどのように進めるかについて考えます。
講演は日本語と英語の併用で実施します。
