戦略的国際パートナーシップ：マサチューセッツ大学アマースト校

北海道大学と米国マサチューセッツ大学アマースト校（UMass Amherst）の関係は、19世紀のそれぞれの前身まで遡ります。ウィリアム・スミス・クラーク博士が、マサチューセッツ農科大学の第3代学長として、また、札幌農学校の教頭として、二校の土壌を培った時代です。

2015年以降、両校は、本学総長直轄教員組織である国際連携研究教育局（GI-CoRE）の枠組みを使い、農学、情報計算科学、高分子工学分野において研究連携と教員、大学院生の交流を進めてきました。2023年には、総長一行がUMass Amherstを訪問し、これまでの長年にわたる連携や交流を基盤として、今後さらに両校の関係を深めていくことを確認しました。
