8月27日（木）朝、本学理学部建物において、大学院学生1名がフッ化水素酸を被る事故が発生し、救助にあたった大学院学生1名及び学部学生1名も軽傷を負い、病院へ搬送されました。
その後、搬送先の病院において、フッ化水素酸を被った大学院学生の死亡が確認されました。亡くなられた学生のご冥福を心よりお祈り申し上げますとともに、ご遺族の皆様に謹んでお悔やみ申し上げます。
なお、軽傷を負った学生2名については、健康状態に問題はありません。
本学といたしましては、安全な環境の下で教育研究活動が行われるべき大学において、このような痛ましい事故により学生の尊い命が失われる事態となりましたことを重く受け止めております。
現在、関係機関と連携しながら事故原因等について調査を進めております。本件を厳粛に受け止め、事故原因の究明に努めてまいります。新たな事実が判明しましたら、改めてお知らせいたします。

On the morning of Thursday, August 27, an accident occurred in a building of Hokkaido University's Faculty of Science in which a graduate student was exposed to hydrofluoric acid. Another graduate student and an undergraduate student who assisted in the rescue also sustained minor injuries, and all three were transported to a hospital.
The graduate student who was exposed to hydrofluoric acid was later confirmed dead at the hospital. We offer our deepest condolences on the student's passing and extend our sincere sympathies to the bereaved family.
The two students who sustained minor injuries are in stable condition and have no health concerns at present.
Hokkaido University takes this tragic accident extremely seriously. The loss of a student's precious life in an accident of this nature at a university, where education and research should be conducted in a safe environment, is a matter of profound concern.
We are currently investigating the cause and circumstances of the accident in cooperation with the relevant authorities. Taking this incident with the utmost seriousness, the University will make every effort to determine the cause of the accident. We will provide further information as new facts become available.
